| Our body is like a factory and, just like any factory that's working to produce valuable goods, our factory needs a good security system to keep us safe from intruders and opportunists who may try to sneak in and to do damage or steal something valuable (in this case our health is the thing that is at risk). In ‘Healthy lives, Healthy choices’ we learned how our body is surrounded by skin, a strong organ that acts like a fence to keep out potential intruders. Our body also needs workers (food) that go in and out of the factory each day to keep it working well. Occasionally some of the many millions of microbes that surround us get inside with the workers too. We have ways of getting rid of them, like being sick - yuk! – if this fails then the real security staff begin their work against the microbial intruders... |
